Create and send a business invoice
Getting paid quickly is mostly about a clear invoice: correct totals, the right VAT treatment, payment details the client can act on, and a file small enough to email. This workflow covers the whole chain.
The problem
You agreed a price, applied a discount, and now need to know whether VAT goes on before or after it, then produce a document a corporate client's accounts team will accept.
Step by step
- 1
Check the margin before you quote
Confirm the price still leaves the margin you need once costs and the discount are applied.
Open Profit Margin Calculator - 2
Work out the VAT
Apply the discount to the net amount first, then add 7.5 percent VAT to the discounted figure. To pull VAT out of an inclusive price, divide by 1.075.
Open VAT Calculator Nigeria - 3
Generate the PDF invoice
Enter line items, discount, VAT, due date and bank details, review the live preview, then download. Use the Nigerian Business template when the client needs your TIN and VAT line.
Open Invoice Generator - 4
Add a payment QR code and send it
Encode your payment link as a QR code for the printed or PDF copy, then compress the invoice if you are attaching several documents to one email.
Open QR Code Generator
Worked example
Two line items of ₦150,000 and ₦75,000, a 5 percent discount and 7.5 percent VAT give a ₦213,750 subtotal, ₦16,031.25 VAT and ₦229,781.25 due. Adding a QR code that opens your payment page usually shortens the time to payment on printed or PDF invoices.
Limitations to know
- The invoice generator is a document tool, not bookkeeping. Nothing is stored between visits and invoice numbers do not auto-increment across sessions.
- Only charge VAT if you are registered to do so; otherwise quote the net price.
- Exchange rates are not applied, so invoice in the currency you want to be paid in.
Frequently asked questions
Is VAT calculated before or after a discount?
After. Reduce the net amount by the discount first, then charge VAT on the discounted subtotal.
What must a Nigerian business invoice show?
Your business name and address, the client details, invoice number and date, itemised charges, the VAT line where applicable, your TIN if registered, and clear payment instructions.
How do I record a deposit?
Enter the amount already paid so the invoice prints both the total and the outstanding balance.
